Single Review: The Lighthouse and the Whaler – I Want To Feel Alive

I stumbled across The Lighthouse and the Whaler in late 2013 and fell instantly in love. I listened to their two albums non-stop for months and waited patiently for new music. I was elated when they released the news that a new album would be coming out this year (August 28th to be exact). After a loooooooong day, I was very happy to see that their new single, “I Want to Feel Alive,” has premiered.

One of the things that drew me to The Lighthouse and the Whaler originally was their knack for crafting grandiose orchestrations much like one of my other favorite bands, Local Natives. Michael LoPresti’s crooning vocals kick the track off as single guitars play underneath before adding a bouncing kick drum to get you moving along. The track builds and builds until strings are crashing into repeating chants of “I want to feel alive!” There’s no doubt in my mind that when Mont Royal comes out in August it will be on repeat for the rest of 2015.
