Single Review: Silent Lions – This is Symbiotic
We’re approaching our one year anniversary here at Under Bright Lights and honestly I can’t believe how far this little idea has gone. We have a lot of people to thank for that but one of the bands we probably owe the most to would have to be the guys in Silent Lions. They were one of the first bands that we reviewed last year and have been bringing new releases and videos to us as well as sending some talented bands our way.
They have just released their newest and last single and I thought that there’s no better way to celebrate our (almost) first anniversary with a review of it. It’s probably the most low key track the duo has released and possibly their best. Don’t get me wrong, I love cranking up the final release of “Runnin’ Me Down” and “Terrible Days”, there’s just something about the laid back, chillness of “This Is Symbiotic” that I can’t help but love.
The track opens with Tartaglia’s mellow vocals drifting lazily over Klein’s muffled drums through the first verse. Tartaglia’s funk infused bass hop in for the chrous along with some dissonant pianos and wonderful, spacey synths. The track may lack the signature big build up of other SiLi tracks but it’s definitely just as attention grabbing.
“This is Symbiotic” is a great note for Silent Lions to go out on and whatever Klein and Tartaglia have planned for the future, I’m sure it’s going to be amazing.
The guys are playing on last show at the Ottawa Tavern on December 19th and you should definitely get there if you can because they put on one hell of a show.
