Single Review: Dead Seem Old – This Mess Won’t Make Itself

It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything from one of the first new discoveries that I featured here on UBL. The London based duo Dead Seem Old has been hard at work crafting new tunes and just released their newest single, “This Mess Won’t Make Itself” on Vourliotes Recordings / Universal Music Publishing UK. The newly released video for the single is just as captivating as the song and will pull you quickly under the duo’s spell.

Dead Seem Old are still drawing from Grimm Fairy tales and have added old 50’s Boogaloo music to the mix crafting another completely unique track. Like their previous releases, “This Mess Won’t Make Itself” keeps to the duo’s strict ethic of minimalist instrumentation and catchy hooks. There’s a strong driving beat that aches to be clapped along with (you know how I love clapping) along with some beautiful guitars and horns that really spice up the back half of the track. The single releases soon and it just helps up my excitement for an album full of more mischievous hooks.

The visuals of the animated video as just as mesmerizing as the song itself. The animation feels like a painting jumping off the canvas into our three-dimensional world. Even if you’ve heard the track before, the video will surely add new life to “This Mess Won’t Make Itself,” causing the listener to discover new layers to this intricate song that they never heard before.
